Agra
The city known for the famous monument of love and one of the Seven Wonders of the world - the Taj Mahal. situated on the banks of Yamuna, this town was chosen by the emperor Babar as a base for the Mughals.
The Taj Mahal is one of the most splendid masterpieces of architecture in the world. It was Emperor Shah Jehan who ordered the white marble structure building of the Taj Mahal, in honour of his beloved wife, Arjumand Banu who was later known as Mumtaz Mahal, which means, the Distinguished of the Palace.
The architectural complex of the Taj Mahal comprises of five main elements: the Darwaza or main gateway, the Bageecha or garden, the Masjid or mosque, the Naqqar Khana or rest house, and the Rauza or the Taj Mahal mausoleum. It took twenty-two years to complete the construction of this architectural wonder.
As per the records twenty thousand people were employed to work on this magnanimous project With its laid -back lifestyle and its immense wealth of architecture, handicrafts and jewellery, Agra is amongst the most remarkable city of the world.
Jaipur
Capital of Rajasthan - the 'Pink City'. Jaipur means "the city of victory" & was founded in 1727 by king Sawai Jai Singh.It is also called Pink City because most houses in old city are pink colored. The city is surrounded by thick wall 20 feet high and 9 feet wide with eight gates. Ajmeri gate and the Sanganeri gate in the south, Chand Pole gate in west and the Ghat Darwaja in the east are the main gates.
To the west lies the desert region of Marwar (Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur), to the north and south run the craggy Aravali hills. This colorful city is enriched with royal tradition & culture, attractive monuments, Forts , Palaces- like the Magnificent City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Amer, Nahargarh and Jaigarh fort which are some of the most exquisite blend of Hindu architecture.
Kerala
Kerala ‘The God’s Own country’ is an enchantingly beautiful, emerald green land, flanked by the Western Ghats on one side, the Arabian Sea on the other, and strewn with rivers, lagoons, backwaters and rich vegetation.
Its a small state situated at the southwest corner of India and has got 44 rivers, many lakes, hills and mountains to add to it's natural beauty. Kerala is also one of the richest states in India with forests and plantations of rubber, cashew, and coconuts everywhere.
It has a particularly rich heritage of dance and drama (Kathalkali, Koothu, Mohiniattam) and people here are among the most industrious and well educated (100% literacy late) in the country.
Himalayas
Hima - Snow, alaya abode. 'Abode of Snow is also known as the king of mountains. . Himalayas are rugged foothills carved into deep gorges and ravines by innumerable streams and the descent of the five rivers namley the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum.
It can be divided into three zones – the Shiwaliks or the Outer Ranges on the southern wing, the Middle Ranges like the Pir Panjal and the Dhauladhar, and the Greater Himalayas with the highest and oldest peaks (many of these are in Nepal).
The reasons why people have been so fascinated by the Indian Himalayas is because of the
- Hindu pilgrim routes,
- the low valleys that abruptly rise up in high mountain ranges,
- the lovely trekking hikes,
- densely forested areas lying just a mountain range away from barren cold deserts,
- and the lovely people of the mountains with their unique hospitable lifestyles.
Some major Indian Himalayan regions: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal etc.
The Temples
Religion has been an integral part of Indian lives. And to celebrate different religions, there are various temples and pilgrimage destinations that have adorned the face of this beautiful country. Most of the temples were made many a centuries ago, but they still stand today, surviving the test of time with the same divinity with which they were built.
As major part of old Indian culture can still be seen in these temples through rituals and pujas that are performed here. Also the carvings and architecture of the temple are something that will enchant the visitors to no limit.
The most famous temple is surely The Tirupati Balaji Temple situated in Andhra Pradesh. It is the richest Hindu Temple in the world and also the second most visited pilgrimage destination after Vatican.
The other important temples are Khajuraho Temple, Konark Sun Temple, Meenakshi Temple, Jagannath Temple, Golden Temple, Ajanta Caves Temple, Siddhivinayak and many more to explore.
